Evolution & Revolution

Developments in complex medical techniques in the heart field have led to several types of procedures on the market, totally or partially internal. Obviously, we can only congratulate ourselves on this considerable progress which has made it possible to extend the lifespan of people suffering from such a pathology, and to relieve them.

  • Completely internal techniques: heart transplant

The heart transplant is based on successive assumptions of implementation of the protocol to achieve a potential result. From the availability of a heart (less than 4 hours), to rejection of the transplant, including donor-recipient compatibility, the complexity of the operation, as well as psychological trauma (donor-recipient relationship, donor families, depression of the recipient ...) are all factors impacting the success of the operation.

  • Partially internal techniques: assisted artificial hearts

The development of an artificial heart with external assistance, having given rise to various recent operations, does not however make the treatment accessible to all patients. In addition to the related health expenses, it implies, by its design (internal-external), an important and cumbersome device for the beneficiary (diagram opposite).

However, the technological advance achieved in the implementation of this process finds all its legitimacy in the solutions offered to patients currently in the phase of terminal heart failure.

THE PROJECT

Le Second Souffle gms: a new hope

Due to the lack of heart transplants with 100,000 end-stage heart failure patients in need of transplantation in Europe and the United States (in 2017), and only 5,000 grafts available, it is essential to find an alternative.

The originality of SECOND SOUFFLE gms is from the native heart , add to it an assistance system, simple to implement, in order to allow the beneficiary to recover acceptable cardiovascular capacities, to re-tone the cardiac muscle but above all, to operate in perfect autonomy without external motorized assistance for life .

The SECOND SOUFFLE gms , is therefore a new form of implantable cardiac assistance which helps the sick heart. Finally, it also makes it possible to preserve a natural sensitivity (emotional because it beats in automatic counterpulsion), with variations of functioning dependent on the biological rhythm of the individual.
